PC Installation and Maintenance

Participants learn how a computer works from the inside out and acquire the skills necessary to install and upgrade a computer. As a result of this training, participants will have the prerequisite knowledge required for a career in PC troubleshooting and repair. The course is taught in five modules:
Safety and Case Preparation
Participants are introduced to the language of computer repair, taken through the components of a PC and taught basic safety. They will learn to understand hazards, identify external and internal components and remove the system case from the chassis of a PC.

CPU & Power Supply
In this module, participants learn critical information about the central processing unit (CPU) and its power supply. Participants configure the power supply and the motherboard and prepare a CPU for installation.

|
Memory & Motherboard
Participants learn about memory modules and optimizing memory capacity for a system. While installing memory modules and a motherboard into the system case, participants identify differences between SIMM and DIMM chips and different form factors for the motherboard.

|
Drives & I/O Devices
In this module, participants install storage drives, input/output (I/O) cards and peripheral devices to the motherboard.
|
|
|
Operating System Installation
Participants take a cursory look at various operating systems offered by Microsoft. They learn to format hard drives, load an operating system and load application programs to the PC.

|
Prerequisite
This course assumes no prior knowledge of computers.
