On Wednesday, September 20, 2006, The National Urban
Technology Center (Urban Tech) will culminate its 10th
Anniversary celebration with a Washington, DC gala benefit “A
Time for Leadership”. To mark their 10+ successful years
serving the education and development needs of children in cities
and communities in over 40 states, Urban Tech will honor three
outstanding individuals who have all pledged their leadership and
support on behalf of the organization’s vital mission.
Urban Tech is proud to announce Hugh B. Price, Senior
Fellow, The Brookings Institution, and former President, National Urban League will present
Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, The Honorable
Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban
Development and Dr. Carol Nacy, President and CEO of the cutting edge tuberculosis vaccine
biotech firm Sequella, Inc. with the Urban Tech Leadership Awards at September’s event.
The gala takes place at the picturesque landmark Willard
Intercontinental Hotel at 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington
and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30pm, followed by
dinner and an award ceremony. The evening will be hosted by
famed comedian and actor Richard Kind. Motown recording
artist Mya will also make a special appearance.
Co-Chairs for September’s event comprise Washington’s most influential movers
and shakers including Vernon Jordan, Attorney Michael Hollis, Verizon Foundation
President Patrick Gaston, Affinity Networks CEO Skip Henderson, Inter-American
Development Bank Executive Fabian Koss, Dr. Carlotta Miles, Willard Freeman, AOL
Chief Trust Officer Tatiana Platt, the NBPA’s executive director Billy Hunter, Attorney
Riley Temple, Roland Hawthorne, and Blank Rome Partner J.C. Boggs.
The public servants are also lining up to pay tribute to their deserving colleagues. The Host
Committee so far includes Senator Thad Cochran (MS), Congressman James Clyburn
(SC), Congressman Charles Rangel (NY), Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. (TN),
Councilwoman Linda Cropp, and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC)
along with many other VIP guests.
In addition to the evening’s tribute ceremony, there will be a silent auction. The auction will
include incredible packages and unique experiences including a MAXjet sponsored “all-business-class” jet excursion from DC to London, signed sports memorabilia, spa and travel
packages, concert tickets and other one-of-a-kind items.
Corporate Tables for the evening are $25,000, $10,000 and $5,000. Individual tickets are
$1000, $500 and $250. Advertisements in the Anniversary Journal are also available at a full-page rate of $2,500 and a half-page rate of $1,500.
