Get Healthy, Get Smart! (GHGS)  is a comprehensive holistic wellness program developed by Urban Tech that is being implemented in New York City middle and high schools to increase the awareness of childhood obesity, a leading cause of increases in cases of diabetes, hypertension and cancer, and to teach students how to make healthy choices and adopt new behaviors that will eliminate the root causes.

Development of healthy habits are accomplished through the integration of Urban Tech’s multimedia Youth Leadership Academy's(YLA) Get Healthy, Get Smart! series into the NY City Department of Education’s core science curriculum for each participating grade. The series includes lessons in:

Healthy Habits, Self Discovery, Personal Relationships, STD/AIDS Awareness, Conflict Resolution, and Personal Appearance, and Substance Abuse Prevention

SEE HOW GET HEALTHY, GET SMART! ENGAGES STUDENTS THROUGH THE YLA PERPETRATING RHYMES GAME & LYRIC CONTEST!

YLA utilizes games and pop cultural references to engage students in the learning process. Once engaged, students build their critical thinking skills through analysis of the topic(s) at hand.

The Perpetrating Rhymes game starts as a "name that tune" activity, but once students guess the name of the artist of a particular song, they view and respond to excerpted lyrics to see if the artist is delivering a positive or negative message.
