| This course provides paricipants with step-by-step instruction in basic computer usage. Participants acquire the computer skills necessary to operate in the Windows environment using the mouse
and the keyboard. They become familiar with a broad range of computer functions, such as creating
and copying files, and learn how to use the Windows programs such as - Word Pad, Paint, and
the Calculator. This introductory course is divided into five modules. |

Using the Desktop
|
| Participants learn the skills necessary to work
in the Windows environment. They use the mouse and keyboard to input data
into the system. They start and exit Windows, open and close Windows programs,
change display properties and mouse settings and use menus and dialog boxes.

|
File Management
|
|
In this module, participants learn concepts of file management. They create folders, move, save, and copy folders and files from a network and switch between Windows programs.
|
| |
Windows Programs
|
| Participants acquire the basic skills to use
the programs that come with Windows XP. They will complete drawing exercises
and learn to combine graphics with text. In this module, participants use
drawing tools, create a draw document, add and format text and save and
print a new graphics document. They use WordPad program to insert and delete
text, save and print a document |

Keyboarding and Text Entry
|
| Participants develop keyboarding skills and
edit simple text documents. They use the Windows WordPad to practice correct
keystroking and to edit a document. |

Organizing files
|
| In this module, participants learn how to organize
files to keep the computer up and running by performing regular maintenance.
They delete unused files, run the disk clean up utility, check for errors
on the hard drive, and set tasks. |

Prerequisite
|
This course assumes no prior knowledge of computers.
